Open Thread: Pakistan
What are India’s strategic goals vis-a-vis Pakistan?:
a) Is it prevention of another Mumbai type attack on Indian soil?
b) Is it punishing the perpetrators of Mumbai attacks including those in the ISI-Army establishment?
c) Is it transformation of Pakistan into a modern democratic nation-state?
d) Is it encircling Pakistan via a ”coalition of democracies” ensuring that the Army-ISI nexus, while intact, does not threaten India?
e) Is it making the chances of another large-scale terror attack minimal so that India can continue to focus its energies in economic development and does not have to launch an open war against Pakistan?
f) As a corollary of (6), while Pakistan continues to flail, India continues its rapid development so as to ensure it is so far ahead of Pakistan that any talk of hyphenation becomes moot?
g) Accept that Pakistan is going to be failed state and minimize the inimical effects on India?
h) Anything else?
