Why Somnath Chatterjee was Expelled
Karat’s spinning would have done N Ram proud
N. Ram, the erudite editor of The Hindu is well known for his leaps of logic in defending the Chinese government. Prakash Karart, the equally intellectual commissar of CPI(M) has taken it one step further. In explaining why Somnath Chatterjee’s continuance as a speaker had become untenable, Karat says,
We had agreed to have a Speaker from the Left in 2004 as we were supporting the Government. But after we withdrew the support, the Left is in Opposition and the Speaker’s post cannot be with the Opposition as it will make the functioning of the Government difficult,” he said.[link]
Touching. Such concern! Maybe, in that case, he shouldn’t have withdrawn support!
